[oom] Gifts
Feb. 11th, 2009 06:19 pmThe apartment in Cairo had a small six drawer dresser behind her bed, painted cobalt blue and topped with an antique mirror, framed in hammered tin. She used to keep a long strand of cloves on a red silk thread draped over the mirror. It had been a gift from a gypsy woman she'd saved from some street thugs.
A decade later and a universe away, the apartment in Milliways had the same dresser, the same chipped blue paint job, the same mirror, and the same long strand of cloves. She found it when she was unpacking her ruck sack and it gave her long pause.
Gifts meant a lot to Fi, even the smallest ones. On top of the dresser, she placed the Makarov Michael bought her for her birthday. Next to it was a miniature copy of The Art Of War, still slightly singed from where she rescued it from the remnants of her apartment in Moscow. That was from her mentor. Beside it went the dried bouquet that Max had given her on that first morning. Forget me nots. She touched it and smiled.
And now, another cherished item for her collection, this one a small plastic child's toy.
A Lego Indy to be correct.
